Mark,
Another man's opinion:
My brother and I own a variety of Mustangs. Currently, our 1965 Restomod has a Cobra Automotive 347 stroker with a Tremac 5-speed. It really is the perfect combo for this motor and rear (3.55 in a 9inch). Car has plenty of low, mid and top end power. Most of that can be attributed to the 500 hp motor, but with the Tremac the car is a pleasure to drive. We used the centerforce dual friction clutch and 5th gear is a pleasure to shift into over 80mph. Our most recent purchase - a 1970 Boss - has the best feeling toploader I have ever felt. The secret - Toploader Heaven. Mark at Toploader Heaven uses a Hurst shifter and shortens the linkage so the throws are 2 inches shorter - the tranny feels like the Tremac. The throw is so short and perfect that, we just sent him the shifter out of our 68 Shelby to work his magic on. We pondered a 5-speed swap into the Shelby, but after driving the Boss with the shorter throw, we decided to stay with the 4-speed. The type of driving you plan on doing, in my opinion, should determine the tranny decision. If you decide on the 4-speed, give Mark a call.
